This series captures my attempt at photographing New Jersey’s High Point Monument in front of the setting sun, a composition made possible by careful planning in the PhotoPills app. This undisclosed location in Minisink, NY proved to be my second favorite vantage point for this project and alignment occurred around the time of the 2025 Autumnal Equinox. At a distance of 5 miles, the size of the monument is relative to that of the sun, and the conditions yielded an intense yellow sky throughout the duration of these sunsets. Birds, bugs, and a recreational airplane were some of the welcome additions to this scene that I didn’t plan for, and they resulted in some photos I was pleasantly surprised to have captured.
